Configuring the search fields for a search result display
Once you have chosen the fields that you want to appear in your search result display, you can configure certain properties for each search field. You can choose whether or not the search field is repeated for each item, how the data in the search field is delimited when displayed, when to truncate the data in the search field, and whether or not the field is to display next to the previous search field.
|
The search fields that are available to configure are those search fields that you have previously set up and are enabled for the search target that you associated with your search result display. For more information, see Managing search fields and Managing Discovery search targets. |
|
If you add, edit, or remove a search results display, configure the search fields for a search result display, or change the search results display assigned to a profile, you must refresh the Discovery search cache afterwards. If you edit a search field or the MARC Map properties for a search field, you must re-index your data and refresh the Discovery search cache before those search fields will appear as options in the Admin console. After you have re-indexed your data and refreshed the Discovery search cache, you can configure a search result display to use the updated search fields. For more information about refreshing the Discovery search cache, see Refreshing the search cache |
For example, if you were configuring the Electronic Access field, you may choose to repeat the field up to five times and delimit the data with a line break. That means that for any record containing electronic access data, Portfolio would display up to five URLs or electronic access points, separated by a line break. If you were configuring the Summary field, you may choose to truncate the data after 180 characters. That means that Portfolio would display the first 180 characters for any record containing summary data. If you are configuring the Author field, you may choose to display the field adjacent to the previous field, such as Title. This means that Portfolio would display the Title field followed directly by the Author field on the same line for each record in the search results list.

If you enter “0” (zero) or a negative number as the character cutoff value, Portfolio will not truncate the data and will display all the data for that search field. |
